Tu B'shvat
Roots and Branches: What can Tu B'shvat, the Festival of the Trees, teach us about the evolution of Jewish holiday customs and beliefs? In the past 60 or so years, Tu B'shvat has grown from a minor reminder of a Biblical tax date into a day to plant trees in Israel, a Jewish Earth Day, and a renaissance of kabbalistic meditations on life itself. There are a treasure trove of creative ideas within this minor holiday - and we can learn from them not only how to celebrate Tu B'shvat itself but how other Jewish holidays and customs have come about - and how we might help more to grow in the future.
