PJS Adult Education

Jewish Prayer 101

Whether you’ve been to synagogue many times and can read along in Hebrew, or whether you have never attended a Jewish service before — you are welcome to bring your curiosity and your questions to the next three PJS Adult Education sessions (November 10, December 8 & 15, 2024).
And if you are considering conversion to Judaism at Sukkat Shalom, these sessions are required, either this time or another time they are offered.

We will begin with basic questions such as:
What is prayer, anyway?
How do Jews pray?
Why do we pray in Hebrew?
Do we have to recite fixed prayers at set times?

We will continue by looking at the siddur, the Jewish prayer book, and other sources of Jewish liturgy and ritual.

The final session will also focus on the Chanukah blessings and rituals.

You are welcome, but not required, to look at this article before the first session:

Sessions will be taught in English, but most texts will be available in Swedish and you are welcome to bring your questions and comments in Swedish.
