Yiddish and Bukovina
A lecture by Prof. Wolf Moskovich. Bukovina inspires the imagination. Sitting at the crossroads of great empires, this region, now part of Ukraine, was home to a myriad of writers, artists, musicians and ethnic groups, each who forever left their imprint.
Wolf Moskovich, Professor Emeritus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Board Member of the Canadian non-profit organization Ukrainian Jewish Encounter, was born in Chernivtsi and experienced this mythical world firsthand. In his presentation “Yiddish and Bukovina”, Prof. Moskovich will explore the region’s many cross-cultural influences. The event will include a presentation of Ukrainian and Jewish music and a showing of the short Yiddish-language film “Glimpses of Yiddish Czernowitz” (with English-language subtitles). Entrance is free.
The first 20 attendees will receive a complimentary copy of “The Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter: Cultural Dimensions” co-edited by Prof. Moskovich and Alti Rodal.
Obligatory registration by August 28 here.
